Visit my other friends who had been on the TARDIS, will you?

"Bang Bang in Bangkok ( Day 2 of 5)"
< Day 2 >

Itinerary : Platinum Morning Market > Golden Palace > Siam Square / Paragon / Center
Mood: Still Shag

Day 2 started with a whole lot of reluctance to get up, cos we were supposed to go platinum morning market and our friend Google said the best time to go is 5am - 7am. We slept at 2am please >_< In the end we got there around 7+. Turns out it was located near the Wanton mee place at the same aisle. Sharon decided to sleep in cos she said the things there are cheap but ugly looking. However, we decided to just go and take a look since its so near.

Well, the things there were not super nice and many stalls are selling repetitive things. But we did managed to buy some stuff there. Jamie even found the nice romper which she bought the day before at Platinum Mall by around 100bht cheaper so she bought it in another color. Generally this place can bargain one. Their wholesale price is also just 2 pieces and I got most of my stuff around 150bht :D

We met up with a new refreshed Sharon back at Shibuya 19 and took a cab over to Golden Palace. A tip for taking cabs in Bangkok - always insist on meter. You will probably face alot of drivers who will keep quoting you nett prices but reject them and ask the next one for meter until one agrees. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A CAB DRIVER WILLING TO TAKE METER. yep, e quotes are usually 2-3x what the meter will cost so always insist on meter.

Anyway, it was very weird when we got down, some guy standing at the entrance says its not the entrance and made us walk to another entrance. But people at that entrance told us to go back at 1pm after prayer??? we went back to the original entrance and found out it was the correct entrance afterall =.=

Golden Palace
entrance: 500bht/ person
Directions:
BTS skytrain to the "Saphan Thaksin" stop. It's on the line that heads towards Wongwian Yai.
From there, head underneath to the "Sathorn - Central" express boat pier. Hop on a orange flag boat (13 baht) heading north - left to right.
The Grand Palace is at pier #9, Tha Chang.

Sawadeka! The Grand Palace is pretty big, you will need a map to check where to go. Remember to cover up your shoulders and your legs! They will check!

Be amazed by the splendour and glamor of the Grand Palace! Everything was so detailed and beautiful!
Having some fun here ;P

Regrettably we didnt get the audio guide so tbh didnt learn much during the tour. we did see people holding audio guides so I guess it should be at the entrance. It's freakishly hot at the Grand Palace too. Remember to bring water and Fan!

Next up was to go Siam Square. Cabbed there and looked for lunch first.

We had lunch at
SOM NAM TUA
Alight at Siam station. Look out for Bangkok Bank on your left, turn left into the alley which is soi 5. Walk pass Sunya Center and look for Som Tam Nua’s striking orange signboard.

Love the food there!! Was rather apprehensive cos it's a papaya salad place but they serve many other food too! I liked all the dishes and I think this place is cheaper and more worth it than Nara Thai! We spent around 800bht for 4.

Fried Chicken Basket! Nice but quite small, make sure to order big portion
I think this is phad thai or something ;x cant rmb
Grilled pork neck
Papaya salad

Walked around Siam Square after that. Heard the area is big and the shops are scattered around. There were some shops and the prices were from affordable 400bht+ to totally not affordable 1000 - 3000bht =.= Didnt buy much clothes there but we all got some new shoes at one of the cheaper shops.

Many local designer shops here. Shop fronts are nice but inside the things are really exp!! Plus there will be alot of outdoors walking here so you know what to do!

Got some smoothie from a famous
Mango Tango
Opp Som Nam Tua

Love the smoothie! but we had to wait outside as the shop was full.. ahh aircon, why you elude us again

This is heavenly on a hot hot day :D

Went to Siam Paragon so that Mimi and Val can get their Melissa shoes.

I guess it's cheaper to get your jelly shoes here? I know Jamie got hers at 70% off O_O

My thai distributors and Ladyironchef highly recommended this place for cakes so here we go! Kinda disappointed by the decor cos it wasn't in an enclosed shop space and the other pastry shops looked much better..

Let Them Eat Cake
Siam Center top level

The cakes are pricey even for Singapore standard! Each is around 200bht+ and they are not very big at all.. However the cakes themselves are light and fluffy, and we enjoyed them :)

After dessert is soon dinner! We went back to Siam Center again and met up with my thai distributors for Mookata!

Bar-B Q
Siam Center top level

Apparently mookata is a very common gathering place for the thai and one might expect to come out smelling like oil and sweat after eating it but NO! we had it in an aircon place and somehow it wasn't hot and the smoke and smell were absorbed. Maybe its the type of pot they use.

Look out for this mascot!

Pretty affordable and the meat is fresh! love the sauce that came with it and it made everything taste so gd :D
They were having some line merchandise sale. aww look at brown!

We rushed over to After you cafe for their highly raved toast after dinner:

After You Dessert Cafe
Central World top level
10am - 10pm

Look out for the sheep sign! The outlet in Siam paragon was under renovation when we were there so we went to the one at Central world.

The highly raved Shibuya Honey Toast! my distributors felt it was too sweet but we found it was just nice and super fluffy and nice <3 too bad no more stomach for more, cos the Shibuya black toast looks amazing!

This is yummy too! we counted there's 18 layers in all??

Will totally come back for more desserts! go to their website to take a look at their menu, looks amaazing!!

It was around 11pm when we went back and we went for hotel leg massage after bathing!! so shiok <3 Ready for day 3 :D

"Bang Bang in Bangkok ( Day 1 of 5)"

SAWADEKA!!

Once again, a long long hiatus from the last post!! TBH, I've almost forgotten all about my blogs until one day when Val came over for our weekly runs and she told me about this blog that she read. There's 186, there's heels, insecurity, food etc OMG, scared me outta of my wits cos it sounded like my blog!! But luckily, after more interrogations, it seems like it's not. After all, I do post pics in my blog and there's no reason she wont recognise me hahaha

Anyway, it has been 3 weeks since our Bangkok trip and I am still missing the place dearly.. the good food, the cheap shopping and the cute TIGERS. Yes, we visited the tiger temple but that's for later :)

< Day 1 >

Itinerary: Platinum Mall > Central World > Asiatique
Mood: Damn Shag

Really damn damn shag day 1!! Our flight was around 7 am, meaning that we need to check in ard 5am, wake up around 4am!! I told myself that I need to slp at around 10pm to get at least 6 hours of slp but 10pm came and went. I was chatting with the girls and slowly packing until 2am =.= Got myself to blame that I only caught 2.5hours of slp (woke up at 4.30am). Had to wake a sleepy daddy up to get me to the airport (luckily he volunteered!)

Anyway, we took Tiger Airways to Bangkok without much trouble:)

off to the land of smiles!

Reached 5mins early and we immediately went to get SIM card (600bht for 7 days of unlimited data and 60mins of talktime) after touching down. Sharon who had the most experience coming to BKK, said it will only take 200bht to get to our hotel from the airport by Meter. But it has now risen to a shocking 700bht, Meter not allowed! I got quite pissed off by the Cab company cos I felt that they are trying to rob our money but there was nothing we can do :( in retrospect, 700bht is S$28.5 and split by 4 girls so it is actually still rather cheap for an hour ride. What greeted us first was the horrible Bangkok Jam. The cab driver said it's rather common to jam around 10am in BKK :/

Arrived at our Hotel: GLOW PRATUNAM

Initially from the pictures, we thought the whole building belongs to GLOW but when we arrived, we realised it was actually on top of Shibuya 19, the mall. Took the elevator up to the reception area and was greeted with the pretty modern and geometrically interesting GLOW. Was told that our rooms were not ready yet so we left our luggage at the recep first.

First food place, the famous Sab x2 Wanton Mee place!!

4/32-33 Soi Petchburi 19, Pratunam.
Directions: Located just opposite Platinum Mall, the lane beside Shibuya 19 shopping mall. Characterised by crowds

Heard the wanton mee and pork leg rice are nice and it's right next to our hotel so there we headed >>

Basically furnished with the King and Monk's pictures

Famous wanton mee!! But tbh, it was rather tasteless to us and the wantons are q small..

Pork leg rice!! Liked this much better than the wanton mee! meat is tender and flavourful :)

All in all, the meal only cost us around 160bht for 4 people :)

We bought a crepe while heading over the overhead bridge to PLATINUM mall.

The mall actually only has around 6 levels and 3 sectors. At first Sharon told us, she and her friend used to shop in this mall EVERYDAY and they were not able to cover everything still. So we thought Platinum must be super big and the items must be all very nice... but actually not every shop sells nice stuff suitable for our age (20s) and some shops they cater to specific styles or specific material. Like there will be shops selling all tie dye stuff, and shops selling all denim stuff or lace stuff.. so in short, it just means that quite alot of shops can just skip if the styles or material are not your type..

In the end, we managed to finish the whole mall in a few hours, many shops were selling repetitive stuff and we did not managed to bargain AT ALL :( can only get abit of discount if you buy 2pieces and above. This season, it seems like crop + loose tops were the In items and so many shops were carrying them! Val and Mimi looked through most of them but those are definately not clothes suitable for people with boobs.

an Example. and there's the 3 of them sifting through the lot. lol
Lvl 1 where the atas things are - 1000bht++ things are not uncommon

Accessories level - but the accessories here are ugly =x

my loots :D didnt go crazy and buy too much

The clothes were pretty cheap here, range around 200 - 500. Most of the stuff I bought are 300bht, around S$12 :D

Level 6 was the food court and we heard most of the stalls were pretty gd so we headed there for tea break. Need to get a card and use it for purchasing food.. which I personally think is very mafan cos after that you need to Q to return the card and get refund =.=

Mango sticky rice!! Mango is super sweet and the rice is just nice :)

Freshest oyster EVER!! Love this so much, we came back and ordered it again :D

Next we went to Central world (walking distance) for dinner at NARA THAI. heard it got the best restaurant for many years in a row and it is highly raved by my colleague.

OTW I met my fav Soohyun hanging outside a street stall!! Opppa ~ do we look good tgt?

Got to Nara Thai without much trouble. It's simply located at lvl 7 in Central world. We were sitted outside as inside was already full. The food were rather pricey for thai standard everything was above S$10

Here's the phad thai!! It's nice :)

The rest of the food were nice but were not as exceptionally nice as I had come to expect.. TBH, I think the fried rice was not nice at all, it was tasteless and bland. I think people should stick to ordering their noodles and tom yum.

It was pretty late by the time we finished our dinner but we still had one last place to visit : ASIATIQUE.

Pretty exhausted from the non stop walking but Asiatique looks too nice to miss!!

Directions: Free ferry shuttle service available at Sathorn Pier, which is right beside Thaksin BTS station.

us waiting at the Pier. The pier was easy enough to find but the free ferry was not as clearly indicated and we zoomed around trying to catch e wrong ferry =.=

the ferry. it operated from 4-11pm only.

Originally wanted to chill at one of the bars but we only had an hour until the last ferry departs so.. we ended up shopping again lol

The shops were all well decorated but the prices are surprisingly cheap and only abit more expensive than Platinum! we didnt get anything there though except..

the foodstuff from here!! even the name plate looks like our SG ones =x I managed to snag lots of Choc Banana Pocky for my friends ;P

I had one of these beers and tbh it sucks. I dislike wheat taste ;/

Took the last ferry back and at first wanted to cab back from the pier but.. there doesnt seem to be a place for you to flag a Taxi so we ended up taking the train and WALKING back to our hotel.. The long torturous walk to our hotel is a scene that will stay in my mind forever. Already so tired but we had to walk 15minutes to our hotel. I had never wanted a leg massage so much in my life T_T It was 2am (3am back home) when we finally slp. 23hours of awake time with only 2.5hrs of slp T_T
